Majcher is now one of the premier event
coordinators on the West Coast.

Majcher told EnTrends that she had an
avid interest in cooking all throughout
college, even while pursuing a degree in
business. She wrote restaurant reviews for
the Georgetown newspaper and the
summer before her junior year of college,
she went to cooking school in Paris. The
following summer, before her senior year,
she attended cooking school in Normandy.

After graduating from college, Majcher
went to work at a restaurant in
Washington D.C. Coincidentally, began
dating the head chef and the two were
married a year later. Majcher and her new
husband decided to move across the
country to open their own restaurant in
California. She became the general manager
for the establishment and he directed the
culinary aspects.

As their business grew, Majcher and her
husband began to cater out of the kitchen
of their California restaurant.
However, as the business evolved, so did
Majcher and her husband. The two parted
ways as husband and wife but remained
friends and business associates. In 1997,
they took over a banquet facility so that
they would have a second commercial size
kitchen to work out of.

After three more years working with the
restaurant and banquet facility, Majcher
realized that her passion lied in
coordinating entire events, not just
catering. The opportunity to be creative
and work in a different setting for each new
job appealed to her. She began looking
into starting her own company and in
August of 2000, The Party Goddess, Inc.
was born.

Today, Majcher still has a commercial
kitchen in Arcadia, California, not far from
Pasadena, but she has also set up a
wonderful home office and studio. There,
she and her associates produce prototypes
for various event elements such as center
pieces, place cards, props, etc. Majcher
and her associates then present their
prototypes to clients before starting work
on events. Majcher's company works with
every aspect of an event, from concept to
completion. Often times this involves
scheduling DJs, arranging lighting, and
designing the overall theme of an event.

When it comes to clients, The Party
Goddess, Inc. has an impressive list that
includes a wide variety of people and
companies.
Majcher's company has done work for
Ralph Lauren, Southwest Airlines,
Marriott, NBC Studios, EarthLink, and
recently they planned a wedding for a
Grammy-winning singer in the group Mary
Mary, where singer Brandy was in
attendance. The Party Goddess, Inc. also
handled the opening of the Hollywood
Bowl on June 29th of this year. Majcher
says that a variety of her other clients
come from referrals that arise through big
events.

What makes Majcher's company unique is
that, as the CEO, she is very aware of what
trends are popular in event coordination.
Majcher says that because trends usually
originate in Paris, go to London, and then
hit New York before the West Coast, she
tries to catch them at their origin and bring
them back. She just recently came back
from Paris where she focused on colors,
patterns, and overall themes that we will be
seeing next year. Majcher says that her
youthfulness and eye for design helps in
an industry that calls for variety and
aesthetic appeal.

not very creative, then they are not as
satisfying." Majcher enjoys the aesthetic
creation part of her job the most. When
asked if she came from a line of artistic
people, she told EnTrends that her mother
was in fact an exhibiting artist. Majcher
recently started taking art classes herself at
the Art Center in Pasadena. She feels that
the classes help to train her eye and stir
her creativity.

Majcher told EnTrends that one of her
most successful events took place at a
soundstage at NBC studios. Even though
the kitchen had to be set up in a tent and
there was a strict timeline with union labor,
Majcher and her crew managed to serve
almost 500 people in twenty minutes.
Majcher said that the soundstage looked
great, her staff was extremely professional,
and all the guests consumed everything
happily.

When asked what the best part about
being an entrepreneur is, Majcher said that
it would have to be the ability to be her
own boss. She doesn't have much free
time, but the ability to control what she
does when she has it is nice. If she wants
to meet friends for lunch, she can. Majcher
also enjoys the ability to travel now that
she has been successful. If she wants to
go on vacation, all she has to do is book a
flight.

At home, one of Majcher's new hobbies is
gardening. In her backyard garden that
rises above the Rose Bowl, she has
planted a variety of things along with at
least four types of potatoes. She even has
five chickens and two ducks that create
rich compost.

By far, one of Majcher's favorite things to
do is spend time with her six-year old son.
She told EnTrends that her son definitely
benefits having a mother as a professional
party planner. This past year, Majcher had
a fireman theme for his birthday party. The
firemen from Pasadena were invited to
present safety instructions to the children
and Majcher provided a smoke machine in
the house for the kids to practice
evacuation. Each child received his or her
own fire hat too.

When it comes to the theme of her own
home, Majcher said that she is currently in
an Andy Warhol phase. She loves neon
and pop art. As for clothing, she is a
Mosquino fan.

Majcher says that she loves talking to
other entrepreneurs. When it comes to
advice she would give to entrepreneurs
starting out, Majcher says, "Try to work as
long as you can in the industry that you
want to get into. There is so much to learn!
You may even determine that the industry
is one you do not want to get into. Second,
take the amount of capital you think you
need to start with and double it! Inevitably,
some other miscellaneous items that you
did not account for will cost more."
In August of 2000,
Marley Majcher
decided to take her
more than eight
years of experience
in the restaurant and
catering business
and culminate it into
her own company
entitled The Party
Goddess, Inc.
Majcher also has very unique vendors that
she uses for events. She will sometimes
browse companies that cater to toy stores
and other facilities in order to get unique
props for events.

She will even scout out a bizarre or market
with unique products in order to plan a
future use for the items.

Majcher says that a typical workday is few
and far between, but there are a few
components that seem to comprise most
days. She says that almost half of her day
is spent in the field with new clients,
existing clients, or vendors. She also
spends a great deal of time putting
proposals together. This involves
brainstorming, budget planning and
finding the elements needed for the
creation of the developed ideas. Majcher
must also keep track of the details involved
in upcoming events and those with
managing her business. The Party
Goddess, Inc. currently has three full-time
employees and the rest work by contract.

Majcher says that she tries to measure her
success by the outcome of her projects
rather than financial gain. "There are a lot
of projects I have worked on that have
wonderful profit margins, but if they are
