As CEO of two companies, I tend to work
more than play.
Fortunately, we have a great team so I
could take long vacations, but have
tended to take short breaks instead. So,
this summer we will take a few
short trips. My wife and I will go to
Florida in late May 4 days, just to
get away, relax, etc.
We will also take a short trip late summer
with our kids. They are both
young, so, something short...not too far
away.
My company is in the event business, so
we plan events all the time
(meetings, etc.) for companies like GM,
Wal-Mart, etc. Most companies reduce
corporate meetings in the summer months.
However, we do some special events in
the Summer for clients.
As a company we do a two day planning,
retreat and fun day(s). We rent a
lodge, have a float trip, etc. It's just
employees. We normally do this in
August, over a Thurs/Fri.
So that's some summer info.

Personally: I take a couple weeks and
go sailing: 1 week in the spring and
1 week in the fall. It's amazing the
impact of not having cell coverage at
sea will clear your mind and allow your
corp. strategies and objectives to
rise to the surface.
Corporate: We have BBQ's every other
Thursday night at the office, where
each group within i3 is responsible for
hosting the event. We have found
arranging large corp. events are very
difficult to accomplish with the
variety of family obligations, vacation,
long weekends, etc. As a result,
we try to do things in piece meal and
save our corporate event for a
skiing trip in Feb.

As for the summer, since we plan events,
we have lots of weddings, graduation stuff, etc. to organize. Regardless, I try and make some time to get away and recharge. This summer I am going to Paris for a week, just to get some new event ideas, see what is going on with the European art and fashion world and taste some great new dishes. My focus during the summer, is to try and recharge, rejuvenate and still remain productive. Being in California, it's a little hard because the weather is so pretty it can be a distraction.
Work wise, since there will be days when
we have tons of hours to put in, and others when it will be mellow, I told my assistant that we could go down to the beach club, have lunch, brainstorm and work on some of our stuff down there once in a while, just to keep the stress level down.
My final goal, is to somehow get to the
Hotel Bora Bora for a week, as I have always been dying to go and I have a plan to visit all of the Aman Resorts (of which it is one). Anyway, that's it, please don't hesitate to call if I can help!

I surveyed several entrepreneurs and asked them how they personally spend their summers, along with any special events their
companies particpiate in. Here are a select three of their responses: |
